Why do medical colleges need an alumni network platform?

Medical graduates stay connected to their college for life: batch reunions, departmental get-togethers and alumni associations are common across Indian medical colleges. But the tools are usually informal — WhatsApp groups per batch, a printed directory from a jubilee year, an association secretary’s personal spreadsheet. These do not survive changes in the committee and do not help the college itself use the network for students.

A platform gives the college and its alumni association a single, verified directory that alumni maintain themselves, with structured fields for specialty, current hospital or practice, and city. It lets the college invite the right people to the right activities — a surgery alumni talk, a batch reunion, a scholarship appeal — and keeps a record of what happened.

What should a medical college alumni portal include?

Connect My Alumni provides these modules on one branded site:

    • Directory filters by batch (year of admission or graduation), degree (MBBS, MD/MS, DM/MCh and others), specialty, hospital or practice and city
    • Verification so only genuine graduates join, with document upload or admin approval
    • Events with RSVP and QR check-in for reunions, academic talks and alumni lectures
    • Mentorship matching for students and interns seeking guidance from senior alumni
    • Job board for positions alumni want to share
    • Donation campaigns via UPI and Razorpay for scholarships, equipment or student welfare
    • Forums and groups by specialty for professional discussion
    • Committee elections for the alumni association

How can alumni support students and interns?

Students and interns face big decisions — specialty choice, postgraduate entrance preparation, practising in another state or abroad, research careers. Senior alumni are a credible source of guidance. Use the mentorship module to match students with alumni by specialty, and set clear guidelines on the scope of mentoring. Alumni talks on career paths, organised department by department, are another low-effort, high-value activity.

Keep professional boundaries clear: mentoring is career guidance, not clinical supervision, and any clinical teaching or CME accreditation is governed separately by the relevant regulators and bodies.

How do we protect doctors’ privacy?

Doctors are understandably careful about who can see their phone numbers. Keep the directory visible only to verified alumni, let each alumnus choose which fields other members see, and do not publish contact details on the public microsite. Peer messaging lets alumni reach each other on the platform without exposing a phone number. These practices also support your obligations under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023; verify specific requirements with the official source.

How do medical alumni associations raise funds?

Alumni of medical colleges often support scholarships, student hostels, equipment and welfare funds for staff. Campaigns with a specific goal, a visible progress bar and regular updates work better than general appeals. Connect My Alumni supports UPI and cards through Razorpay and keeps a donation history for each alumnus. If donors expect 80G tax certificates, check that the receiving entity — the college trust or the alumni association — holds a valid registration, and issue certificates through your finance team.

    What does it cost?

Connect My Alumni publishes INR pricing: a free Starter plan for up to 100 alumni, with paid plans from ₹11,995/month (billed annually) and a 14-day free trial. A college can pilot with one or two batches on the free plan and upgrade when it opens the portal to everyone.

How should a medical college structure batches and specialties?

Medical alumni usually identify with their year of admission to MBBS, while postgraduate and super-speciality alumni identify with their department. Record both: an undergraduate batch for everyone, plus department and degree for those who completed postgraduate training at the college. That lets the college invite an MBBS batch to its silver-jubilee reunion and, separately, invite every alumnus of a department to an academic meeting.

Add specialty, current workplace and city as profile fields, and let alumni mark whether they are open to mentoring students or interns. Many medical alumni also work abroad; country and city fields help the association organise chapters and online sessions for them.

    How do we get started?

Work with the alumni association to import its existing list. Use the next big batch reunion as the launch moment: run RSVPs through the portal so every attendee creates a profile. Add one academic alumni talk per quarter, open mentoring to final-year students and interns, and run a short survey after six months to decide the next priorities.

    Frequently asked questions

Can we filter alumni by specialty?

Yes. Profiles include professional details, so you can search and filter alumni by specialty, workplace, city and batch.

Is the directory visible to the public?

No. The directory is private to members you allow, and alumni control which of their details others can see.

Can the alumni association run elections on the platform?

Yes. The committee elections module supports nominations and voting. Follow your association’s own bye-laws.

Does the platform provide CME credits?

No. You can run academic talks and record attendance, but CME accreditation is handled by the relevant authorities, not by the platform.

    How much does it cost?

There is a free plan for up to 100 alumni; paid plans start at ₹11,995/month (billed annually).
